Alex Mohubetswane Mashilo is National Spokesperson of the South African Communist Party. He holds an MA in Labour Policy and Globalisation completed at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) with Research Report and Course Work, respectively, ‘Changes in work and production organisation in the automotive industry value chain: An evaluation of the responses by labour in South Africa’, and Economic Policy and Globalisation with majors in Global Institutions and Economic Restructuring (A) and, Labour and Development. His earlier qualifications are in Labour Law and Engineering.
He previously worked in the automotive manufacturing industry and in the Congress of South African Trade Unions led trade union movement where he previously held various positions at the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa both as a worker leader and union official. In addition, he previously served as a member of the North West University Council. Alex serves on the board of the Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services SETA. He is presently studying towards a PhD looking into the relationship between economic and social upgrading.
