The NIHSS catalytic research projects continue to gain momentum. Recently two NIHSS funded books were launched - a living testimony of that of Dynamising the Humanities and Social Sciences. The two books are Fording Solidarity and The Other Side of Freedom were launched in May.

About The Other Side of Freedom: Stories of hope and loss in South African Liberation Struggle 1950-1994 presents a compilation of 26 profiles of a diverse selection of activists and leaders in the liberation struggle. This book provides a review of the liberation struggle between 1950 and 1994. The Unresolved National Question KZN launch was held on 9 June at the Garden Court Marine Parade in Durban. The launch was a joint initiative between NIHSS and the Mzala Nxumalo Centre for the Study of South African Society.
