APPOINTMENT OF CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER: MR GAOPALELWE MORENA MOFOKENG
The Board of the National Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences (NIHSS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Gaopalelwe Morena Mofokeng as Chief Financial Officer, effective 1 May 2026.
Mr Mofokeng is a Chartered Accountant (SA) with an LLB and more than 15 years of public sector financial management experience. His expertise spans financial reporting, governance, legislative compliance, supply chain management, audit outcome improvement and strategic financial oversight.
He has extensive experience supporting 22 municipalities in his current role as Senior Municipal Finance Advisor at the Northwest Provincial Treasury.
He has also served for over six years in cumulative Acting CFO roles in municipalities under financial intervention, where he led initiatives to stabilise finances, strengthen internal controls and improve audit outcomes.
His experience includes leading Budget and Treasury Office functions managing revenues exceeding R1 billion and assets valued at over R4 billion, and reporting key oversight structures. Earlier in his career, he held management roles at PwC, gaining broad exposure across the public and private sectors.
Mr Mofokeng holds a BCom Accounting degree from the University of Johannesburg, a BCom Accounting Honours (CTA) from the University of South Africa, and qualified as a Chartered Accountant through the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA).
